President Praises Giants for Super Bowl Victory.

The President commented on the Giants beating his hometown Cowboys, agreeing with the Jessica Simpson jinx.  “I’m a good sport,” Bush said at the South Lawn ceremony. “We’re going to send Jessica Simpson to the Democrat National Convention.”  I believe that’s wishful thinking.  It’s going to take a lot more than a “jinx” for McCain to win, and I’m a good sport too.

18-1. Clearly, it was too difficult to play the Giants without a Spycam.

The NFL will never forget and thankfully there is no controversy over an asterick by their 19-0* season (to denote the cheating) becasue it didn’t happen.  I do hope the 2009 season brings an honest Patriot team to the field.

Draft Coverage: 6 for 6 in the Green Room

April 28, 2008 by jknewman

Every year, the NFL invites 6 of what they think are the best players in college to sit in the green room.  These players attend live as the draft begins and ends.  This year, the first in many, all 6 players filled the first 6 picks.

#1 2008 Draft pick was Jake Long (OL), who went to the Miami Dolphins;

#2 Chris Long (DL), to the St. Louis Rams;

#3 Matt Ryan (QB), to the Atlanta Falcons;

#4 Darren McFadden (RB), to the Oakland Raiders;

#5 Glenn Dorsey (DL), to the Kansas City Chiefs;

#6 Vernon Gholston (DL), to the New York Jets.

Charger Fans Dislike Eli – Should have taken Peyton

April 25, 2008 by jknewman

Living in San Diego during that past Super Bowl, and on the eve of the 2008 NFL Draft, I’ve noticed there is a real distaste for Eli Manning.  In the 2004 NFL Draft, Eli encouraged much by his father, and long-time football great, Archie Manning, to reject the San Diego Charger offer.  And he did.  With grace and careful diction, Eli let the Chargers down easy, saying that, “San Diego is a beautiful city,” but not to play football.

Let’s go back a few years when the Chargers had a tough decision to make, and made the wrong one.  The year is 1998.  The choice is between Peyton Manning and Ryan Leaf. The Charger’s chose Ryan.  This decision may haunt them forever, or at least until they win a Super Bowl, and go down as the worst draft decision ever.

Hindsight is of course done with 20/20 vision.  However, it didn’t take much foresight to realize you choose someone that has a legacy father, someone that football is in his veins, someone bread to be a winner…Peyton, not Ryan.  If Ryan turned out to be even half the leader Peyton is today, its doubtful Chargerville would have such a dislike for Eli.  Bitterness is typically bread off life’s bad choices.

Football Season Is In The Air

April 25, 2008 by jknewman

Whether it’s the release of the 2008 schedule or the NFL Draft, the excitement of football season has begun.  This years schedule has stirred many conversations.  Some say the Steelers have the toughest schedule.  Some say New England may return to the Super Bowl as they “only have 5 tough games.”  Others are claiming the Cowboys won’t make the playoffs, and the Giants have a shot at a repeat.

Those are all predictions.  One thing is for sure: Dolphins fans are still saying, “Thank you Eli.”  For the 1-15 Dolphins, the 2008 season doesn’t look too different from the 2007 season as they are still in the building years.  Bill Parcells is hoping Jake Long is the right choice as he has officially signed with the Dolphins as the first round draft pick for 2008.

Jake Long signed a five year contract with Miami. He recently stated in a live interview that his first meeting with Parcells was, “intimidating.”  Long’s Alma Mater is the Michigan Woulverines.

The draft is set to take place tomorrow, Saturday April 26, 2008 at 3pm ET.  The location is Radio City Music Hall in New York.  The first and second rounds will be done on Saturday.  The third and fourth rounds are on Sunday.
